| How to Add Comments and Trackback Make your blog interactive with comments and trackback functions. One of the
more powerful systems to use is HaloScan's service. This is a step-by-step
instruction on how to add HaloScan to your blog.
Here's How:
1. Go to http://www.haloscan.com/.
2. Create an account by clicking on the 'Register for Free' link or 'Sign Up
Now' button.
3. You must provide a user name, a password, the title of your blog, the URL of
your blog, and an email address in the first page of the sign up process. Once
you've completed this, click on the 'Continue' button.
4. You will then be taken to a page confirming your registration. A confirmation
email will be sent to the email address you provided.
5. Login to the members area to set up your comment and trackback feature.
6. The first time you login, you will be asked to specify which blog platform or
system you are using. You can also choose 'manual' if you do not wish to use any
of the tools available for the supported blogging systems.
7. If you wish to use the trackback function, leave the check on the box next to
the text 'Display trackback code.' Uncheck this box if you do not wish to use
trackback.
8. When you click on the 'Next' button, you will be taken to a page with three
codes that you can cut and paste in to the template of your blog
9. The first code is something you should add anywhere in between the tags
<HEAD> </HEAD> in your blog's template.
10. .The second code is something you should in the body of your blog's template
where the comments link should appear. Usually, this is right after the entry
tags.
11. The third code is something that will generate a small button and link
acknowledgement for HaloScan's services. You can add this last code anywhere
between the tags <HTML> </HTML> in your blog's template.
12. Save your template changes.
13. You can now start encouraging your blog visitors and readers to share
comments about your blog entries/posts.
Tips:
1. For more help on installing this function, see HaloScan's FAQ section and/or
visit the forum.
2. Try posting one or two 'test' comments in order to check if the script is
working properly in your blog. You can always delete these later in your Members
page when you're logged in.
3. Things you can do in your Halo Scan members page when you're logged in: Get
the code again (in case you lose it), get instructions on how to change the
template of your commenting function, manage your comments and trackbacks (edit
or delete entries, as well as ban poster), send trackback pings, get your
comment RSS/XML feed, and edit your settings.
4. You can edit the following settings of your comments function: comment order
(oldest to newest or vice versa), height and width of the comment box, turning
some functions on or off (pop up and smileys), time zone, title of your comment
box, link texts of comment and trackback, character encoding, and date format.
5. If you wish to avail of some added functions and support, you can 'donate'
the amount of US$12 or more. PayPal and credit cards accepted.
